Why the (branded) pen really is mightier than the sword

Yes it turns out promotional products really do work!

We’ve all done it, we’ve all been in the supermarket going wild in the aisles when we’ve come upon a member of staff stood behind a stand emblazoned with the latest ‘must have’ product to hit the shelves.  The latest food that revolutionise meal times, and there they are ready to serve up a sample absolutely FREE in the hope that you’ll grab a box and walk away feeling very pleased with yourself!

Now you may or may not buy the product, you may not even have the free sample (or you may be like me and nod as you eat the second one whilst explaining to the assistant that you’ll grab one off the shelf in a moment…..whilst backing away down the next aisle) but one thing for sure is you will notice the brand as you walk past, you’ll now know that the product exists, who it is made by and that it’s on the shelves should you decide to go for it the next time you visit.

Promotional products are no different; they exist to get your brand noticed. The simple truth is we’re programmed to love a freebie.

A recent survey found

People believe that branded promotional merchandise increases company brand awareness.
People say they can name a brand or company/organisation featured on a promotional product on their desk without having to look for confirmation.
Over half of branded promotional merchandise sits on the recipients desk.
People who would keep an item they were given than give it away.
those who would pass it to a colleague.
those who would keep an item they were given than give it away.

Interestingly the same survey found that more women than men are able to recall company names of promotional products on their desks.
